Killarney Outback |
Home | Brief History The preservation of the Killarney region started when Trout Lake (now known as O.S.A. Lake) was threatened by logging. The Group of Seven artist AY Jackson immediately petitioned the government in order to keep the area from being logged and preserve its natural beauty. The minister of Lands and Forests agreed with him and the lake was given to the Ontario Society of Artists (hence the change to O.S.A. lake). In 1959, the rest of the Killarney Park region was turned into a wilderness preserve. Soon highway 637 was built allowing easy access to the area and eventually, Killarney was turned into a provincial park. ![]() |
